The latest data released by the China National Intellectual Property Administration reveals that China has become the world's first country to surpass 5 million valid domestic invention patents, while its PCT international patent applications have ranked first globally for six consecutive years. Among the world's top 5,000 brands, Chinese brands hold a combined value of US$1.81 trillion, ranking second globally. The direct output value of products with geographical indications approaches 970 billion yuan.

By the end of June this year, China's per capita ownership of high-value invention patents reached 15.3 per 10,000 people, exceeding the target set in the 14th Five-Year Plan. The number of valid invention patents in China's strategic emerging industries exceeded 1.4 million, maintaining rapid growth. In key sectors such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, integrated circuits, biomedicine, and new energy, reserves of high-value patents continue to strengthen, accelerating the shift from “quantitative accumulation” to “qualitative enhancement” and laying a solid foundation for achieving high-level self-reliance in science and technology.

The contribution of China's high-efficiency intellectual property utilization to the economy continues to rise. The value-added output of patent-intensive industries accounts for over 13% of GDP, while that of the copyright industry represents nearly 7.5% of GDP.

In the World Intellectual Property Organization's Global Innovation Index 2025 report, China rose to 10th place, entering the global top ten for the first time. The country boasts 24 of the world's top 100 innovation clusters, maintaining its position as the global leader for three consecutive years.
